Why don't you do what's right?

It was a crisp morning. The air bit of coldness in every turn and painted Isabella's face with rosy cheeks. She looked up at the sky and felt very uncomfortable. She had to urinate, but stayed where she was to look at the scenery. It wasn't a very pretty one, but one that which she wanted to look at. Theo was by her side of course. He was smoking and she didn't mind. She carried a book in her hands.. The Great Gatsby to be exact. She loved it. It reminded her everything the world is. We're here to endlessly chase our dream. To chase something that is in the past, and only a few are able to escape the terrors of life. And those who don't, suffer the full blow of what hell has to offer. She inhaled the stiff air, hinted with the scent of smoke. She loved the scent.
"Let's go to America Theo" she tapped on his shoulder while he slowly glanced up at his mistress.
"America? What ever do you want to do there?" the first thought that came to her mind, which opposed her fanciful idea was to look for her deceased Michael. He had passed away two years ago in her very arms. She wanted to re-experience his acquaintances in America. She wanted to go to New York and New Orleans. She wanted to see what Michael saw, if his opinion of America was ever true.
"Come on Theo, let's go to the New World" Theo looked at her pale cheeks slightly touched in pink. The shape of her jaw, the softness of her skin, the beautiful way her hair blew back against the wind was absolutely marvelous. He looked away and focused his eyes far back out into the sea.
"I have no intentions of going to the New World."
And that was that of course. It was no use of cajoling him to go. Isabella closed her eyes as if to shield her eyes from the harsh wind.
"Then I shall go alone.." she breathed out in a low tone of voice. Theo detected her change of attitude and took her in his arms.
"You want to see America darling?"
"Yes indeed. Come along with me Theo" she laid back into his arms. Sensing her comfort, Theo kissed her cheek and walked back to the car.
Isabella looked at him and looked back out into the sea.
"Some dreams are meant to come true."

It is indeed a sin to love. Isabella herself have sinned a great many times. She would always think that something in life will bring her back her happiness. Yet here she passes on like a rose that is has been cut off from the garden. It lives not off of water, soil, and the sun.. but it now lives off the undying attention of what others can give it. And with all this leisure time, she spent her tea hour alone at the mansion, which has caused her to quickly snap into a mode of inspiration.

Putting down her cup of tea, after slightly sipping it with the faintest noise, she walked over the counter in which she opened up her diary to pull out a letter. She took it back to the living room couch in which she began to reread the letter her past has given to her:

My dearest,

How do you fare? I’m at New Orleans, a fine place. A lot of the latest styles are here, though they aren’t as elegant as the ones in England but I bet you would in no doubt love it. No one here is as fair as you my love and I proceed to miss you as each minute passes on. I hope my absence doesn’t make you forget me. Everything here reminds me of you. The wooden houses I know you will love, the fancy cars and lively people. I’ve seen many dolls handcrafted by the finest Americans in this area. But in short, I miss you my love. Until we meet again

From Afar,
(signed) Michael Curry

Isabella sat mute for a minute. She left all the feelings sink in and folded the letter to be placed aside. She ran her finger over the ring which she had taken from Theo the other night. Indeed, she was sorry. She didn’t want to be held anymore but to return to the very soil which had supported her throughout her life.

An age for marriage

"Happy Birthday Isabella!" Julian greeted her Mistress with great enthusiasm. Isabella was sitting on her silk bed breathing in the morning air. She has turned 17.
“I suppose I should get ready”
“Indeed you must! We wouldn’t want Madame Justine and Mister Theodorius waiting shall we?”
Isabella got dressed and got on the carriage to Theo’s home. Julian tagged along like she does every year.
“Mistress, please don’t mind me saying, but you are 17. Shouldn’t you be thinking of marriage? It’s not like I’m worried you’re not going to be married out, but we don’t want you to be a late bloomer.”
Isabella kept silent. She didn’t want to answer Julian. She sat quietly in the carriage until they arrived at Theo’s home. She was greeted by him and his wife Justine.
“Happy birthday my darling!” said Justine widening her arms to embrace Isabella. Theo showed her to the living room. Isabella loved his house. She loved almost any Victorian house for that matter. She admired Victorian architect and often spent many hours looking at the little details of each different home. Isabella sat on the soft golden velvet chair. She commenced to look about the house again. Theo handed her a wrapped present.
“Something for the lovely Isabella Mayfair. I hope you like it. It’s from Justine and me.”
In her hands, Isabella held a tiny box wrapped in deep green paper. She gently untied the silver ribbons and pealed the green wrapper away.
“You shouldn’t have..” Isabella opened the box and there lied a beautiful crystal in shape of two doves. She smiled and walked out to the garden.
“I would have gotten you a book my love” Theo placed his arms around her and nuzzled his nose into her shoulder. “But we all know little girls shouldn’t be reading.”
Isabella looked at the crystal. It shined every color of the rainbow.
“Oops!” Isabella lets the crystal fall from her hand and shatter on the ground. She grinned and turned to Theo.
“It’s a lovely gift Theo” They both returned to the living room and she smiled the rest of the day.

Always look for the North Star

    <lj:music>silence can be heard</lj:music>

She closed her eyes feeling the sting of hot tears in them. Theodorius was with her, though her preferred to be alone that night. Her face was powdered white as snow, lips lined in red as every fair girl should be. She left her hair dangling down her shoulders, though improper it was. She had a sudden urge to ram her head against the wall so that the pain would shadow over the headache in which she now felt. Lifting Theo’s hand, Isabella took his ring. It shined like that of a silver star in the sky, just like the North Star. She placed it on her finger, next to the dazzling emerald, which was also given to her by Theo. She gave him a sweet tender kiss on the lips, one that which had an apologetic innocence to it. She bid him good night, moving the ring around her finger. Theo looked at his hand, which now looked more bland than it had before. He didn’t say a word, but threw his white satin gloves on the tea table and left.

Isabella looked up at the sky. It always amazed her, the sky that is. No matter how many times she looked at it, it always made her want to look at them for centuries. When she looked up at the sky, it seemed as if she was in a great mansion which ceiling is made with such magnificent care and though, you can never see all the details.
"And Emerson said only a child could admire nature's true beauty."
Isabella sat in the grass, gently lifting her hoop skirt to an angle in which she can sit in. She loved the smell of a wintry morning and the sight of winter flowers blooming with such colors. Isabella pulled one purple flower from the soil, brushing her fingers lightly against the petals.
“So soft.. and so weak..” Looking back up the sky, she placed the purple flower in her mouth. It melted with such sweetness, like cotton candy when it touches water. The purple coloring of the flower stained her lips.
“Forever mine” she said and continued picking flowers from the earth itself.

Isbella woke up in her room covered in layers of silk blankets. She can barely reaccount all that has happened to her. She can only remember hearing Julian's voice asking her to walk up and Doctor Brown lifting her off the ice bed. Everything was hazy.
Isbella didn't want to talk to anyone. She locked herself in her room and cuddled near the sheets. She had so many thoughts swimming through her mind. Flashes of her dearest Michael in her arms, Theodorius holding her closely on his chest laughing at her foolishness, Julian watching her day after day with a close eye. She didn't want to do anything but sit there until the dust of time covers her.
She picked up a book by the side of her bedpost and began to read "The Awakening" And soon, over the hours of keeping her eyes on the pages, she felt lost. She drew herself into the book, as if it expressed every feeling, every emotion she had ever felt. She found herself wanting more from the book, as if it possessed her all her answers. As she reached the last line of the book, Isbella plopped down into the sheets and closed her eyes.
"you are one of true courage my Edna.. but I am weak.. I lost all my strength." Isbella laid in the bed thinking of Michael and Theo, soon finding herself in the midst of a soundless drug of sleep.

Isabella stepped outside into the winery morning. Her hands were cold as ice but she touched the snow that landed in her hand and hummed a tone that no one heard but her. Julian wasn’t far behind.
“What is it that you hum Mistress?”
“Can’t you hear it Julian?”
“I know not what you speak of,” replied Julian eyeing her Mistress carefully.
“I can hear it faintly in the background. It sounds like a carnival song. It’s a very uplifting tone. Do you hear it now?”
Julian listened to the silence surroundings and heard not a whisper.
“I can’t say I can Mistress”
Isabella walked off into the snow leaving footprints behind her. Her hands turned into a pale purple.
“We should be going my lady. It’s getting very cold.” Isabella continued walking off into the snowed plains, heading towards a shinning gleam her eye had spotted.
“You go first Julian. I want to see something.” Julian, hesitant to leave her Mistress behind, yet feeling an ominous shadow, turned around and head towards the mansion.
Isabella walked what seemed like many hours. She could see the smoke of her breath plume out of her mouth and nose. She turned around to see how far she went and saw that she had indeed lost herself in the depths of whiteness.
Not far than a few yards from her, she saw a large house made of solid ice. She walked towards the house, gazing into the depths of the transparent building and touched the walls.
“Beautiful!” giggled Isabella. She quickly looked for an opening and went inside. Unoccupied by anyone, Isabella stood in the main hall of the ice building, staring up into the chandelier made of ice as well. She stood there for many hours, as if she herself had been frozen stiff with the rest of the mansion.
Finally, she walked back and forth looking inside each room with beds made of solid brick ice covered on top with a layer of bearskin. She clawed at the chairs as if to test its durability until blood was drawn from her fingers. With a slight touch of sadness, she climbed into an ice bed remembering the arms of her former lover while flashing into the presents of her new lover, Theodorius. She laid there with her eyes open, a tear forming in her eyes and fall down her cheek, but froze on her face. She laid her hands out around her while her blood covered the bearskin and froze on her hands and bed. And there laid our Mistress with her eyes wide open, as if her eyes were frozen along into that position while the rest of her lied there to be preserved.

Isabella walked through the door and held her head high. She loomed through the velvet carpeting and layed her leather gloves on top of the cherry wood table.
"My! Such filth! Get over here Julian!" cried Isbella. Julian, the house maid scrambled up to her Mistress.
"yes my mistress?"
"Did you dust the cabinets today? They're so filthy!"
"why.. yes my mistress" Julian looked down at the floor and backed away.
"I dont know why I even deal with you, Julian!" Isabella lifted her gown and walked away into her bedroom. She fell onto her bed and thought to herself silently for many hours. Finally, the weak and delicate lady lifted her hand up gently to touch her forehead.
She stared idly into the celling wall, tracing the patterns.
A sudden deep sense of sorrow fell upon her while she closed her eyes.
"My flower is dying" she mumbled softly to herself, as if it were a sound made the gentle wind. Isabella set up and got off her linen mattress, adored with silk pillow and velvet sheets. She felt slightly uncomfortable in her corset.
"I must have shifted my stomache up to my lungs." She walked to the fireplace. Unknowingly, she stepped back into a black rat. It's eyes looking up at her with an empty stare while blood began to drip through its eyes.
"oh my!" said Isabella while she quickly lifted her foot from the rat. She knelt down and stared at the dying rat, never moving her eyes away. She studied it in full detail: how it's body is shaped, it's front two teeth, the light glaze of wetness over it's nose, the small dent she made in it with her heel. She looked at the rat the rest of the night, depriving her body of the sleep she most needed. By morning, her eyes were bloodshot and dry.
Isbella picked up the dead rat, tossing it's body into her wooden chest.
"There we go! now, I must fix my dear face!" and she walked away from the rat corpse, leaving it in her bedroom chest.
